OWRC Photo Contest

The official rules of OWRC Digital Photo Contest.


The Photo Contest is open to rowing photographers that are members of OWRC.


The Photo Contest begins on 1 July 2017 and ends 30 September 2017.


Open Water Rowing Center offers unparalleled rowing experience with access to miles of water on Richardson and San Francisco Bays using shells specifically designed for open water.

For our 2017 Photo Contest-we are looking for photos that include our unique views on these bays and include at least some portion of the following rowing equipment:

  • Oars
  • Shells
  • PFD


Higher resolution files of at least 240 dpi/ppi are requested.
Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically in a .JPEG .jpg, or.png form.
Entries should include metadata information which include: Location and caption of subject matter. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted.
The following submissions are ineligible:

Images that involve putting any individual or animal in danger.

Photos that violate or infringe upon rower’s safety.

Photos that contain explicit, obscene, violent or other objectionable or inappropriate content.

Images that involve the willful harassment of wildlife, or damage to the environment by the photographer.



All images must be submitted to owrc@owrc.com:  including rowers name, email and other information about your photo submission.

You may enter an unlimited number of times, but you may not use an agency or automated system to enter


Photos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit and subject matter relevance to rowers, equipment and/or nature. The Best 12 photos will be included in the 2018 OWRC Calendar.

Sculling Shell Storage Available

At OWRC, we have two boathouses with space for single shells. We offer indoor, secure housing. In addition, the amenities include docks for launch, showers and staff for assistance. Welcome to OWRC

Welcome to the Open Water Rowing Center in Sausalito. Since 1985, rowers from OWRC have been keeping fit and enjoying this remarkable natural setting. There is no better exercise and no better place to do it. Learning is easier than you think. Make this the year that you become an open water rower!

Weekdays 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Weekends 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

CLOSED – Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.


Weekdays: Club shells go out on the half-hour; private shells on the hour.

Weekends: Club shells go out on the hour; private shells on the half-hour.

Call (415-332-1091) to reserve club shells; definitely call if you need to cancel a reservation.
