Regularly Scheduled Clinics

OWRC coaches hold regularly scheduled on-the-water clinics through-out the year, at present there are two weekly clinics and two that are approximately monthly.

The Rough-Water Clinic

Tackling rough-water in an Aero

  1. Rough-water Clinic: This three-hour clinic is held roughly monthly on a weekend morning. This clinic is required of rowers who wish to venture outside of Richardson Bay, but is recommended for any rower ready for the next step up. Competence and confidence in rough conditions will benefit anyone rowing on the open bay, and many find it an important and enjoyable part of the sport. Learn more about this important class here.
  2. Wednesday Morning Training Clinic: Every Wednesday Chris Dadd leads a clinic in rowing technique and physical training. The clinic meets from 8am to 10am. Any member may participate, just be sure that you have a boat reserved. There is a $15 charge for each class. During the clinic rowers perform technique drills and several training “pieces” to build speed and endurance.
  3. Friday Morning Technique Clinic: Every 2nd and 4th Friday Morgan and Ellen lead a clinic of rowing technique drill and practice rowing with a group. The clinic meets from 7:30 am to 9 am. All experience levels are welcome. The charge for the clinic is $15 per session or $60/5 sessions.
  4. Self Rescue/Cold Water Confidence Course: Even the most experienced rower can end up swimming, and we do row on notoriously cold waters; you need to know how to handle trouble.  This three-hour  course goes above and beyond the overview of self-rescue you learned in your primary training, and will make you a safer and more confident rower. Rachel will teach you how to handle a capsize, losing an oar, large wakes and water too rough for rowing, giving aid to a rower in distress, and other “what if” scenarios. You will discuss the effects and signs of hypothermia  The charge is $85 (plus $10 to rent a wet suit from Sea Trek). The course is highly recommended for all open-water rowers, including experienced rowers and boat owners.
